December 3-7, 2012

Here are some books that will help guide our discussions this week:

We are learning about animals that hibernate, migrate, camoflage and adapt to meet their needs in winter. Students are SO excited to learn new vocabulary and find out about animals. Here is a link to a story you can read at home: http://www.kizclub.com/storytime/winteranimals/winteranimals.html .

During Reading, we will continue to study characters in a series to see how they change throughout individual stories and in each book. Amelia Bedelia is a favorite because she is SO SILLY in all of her books!

What We Are Up To

Here is what we will be reading in class this week!

We will read five "Froggy" books by Jonathan London to help our character unit during Readers Workshop. We will see how we connect to Froggy, as well as how Froggy connects to other characters in the series! At the end of the week we will take a poll and make a graph to see which Foggy book we liked the best. Such an easy way to make connections between math and language arts!

Welcome to Room 127!

Welcome Friends!

Thank you for visiting our class website. I hope to use this as a portal for communication for the whole 2012-2013 school year. If you have any questions about any posts, you can leave me a direct comment below. If the questions is personal, feel free to email me at KHorniacek@tccsnj.org.

We have already begun our learning in 1-2-3! This week, students will be practicing Spelling activities so that next week our Spelling Groups can start. Your child will be given a  Spelling Homework Packet on Mondays that must be returned on Fridays. Please do not have them complete all assignments on the same night. The purpose of the Spelling homework is to become familiar with common spelling patterns used in the English language. The goal is not to memorize words, but to understand the spelling patterns.

In Social Studies, we have begun our first unit on Communities. We will talk about what makes TCCS a community and the greater community of Teaneck. If you have any fun facts about the community that you would like to share, please email me! :o)

Back to School night is Thursday, September 13th at 7:00 PM. I am looking forward to meeting everyone!
